Message There are a variety of large HP buildups right now with differing thoughts on whether or not you should switch from the twin turbo oil squirters to the NA oil squirters as you upgrade to forged pistons.

The point is that the cast reinforced pistons that come with the twin turbo have a small hole in the bottom of the piston that the oil squirter aims toward. Once the oil goes into this hole, not only does the oil cool the underside of the piston but stays up there a bit longer in a 'galley' of sorts before draining off. I BELIEVE that the NA squirter aims more towards the wrist pin to keep the area cool/lubricated as the NA piston does not have this oil hole.

Mike Koj. went with these oil squirters during his buildup and obvioulsy Mike Smith recommends the change. The flip side is that JUN recommends staying with the stock twin turbo configuration. Unfortunately, I cannot remember what the specifics were for their recommendation.

Additionally, the Toyota Supra Turbo has the exact same issue with their oil squirters as their reinforced cast piston has the same oil hole as the 300zx twin turbo. If I remember correctly though, the Supra Turbo and NA Supra have the same oil squirters so there is no Oil Squirter Mod for them.

With that being said, I know that all of the insane, built bottom end Supras running around Austin have oil squirters that continue to aim to where the hole in their stock cast reinforced pistons were. Several of these cars put down in excess of 900 rwhp.

Twinturbo Pete and myself have decided to remain with the stock setup.

Carlos I know has opted for the NA oil squirter upgrade.

George? Sparkie? N.Y. crew?? Others?

FWIW!

Bryan
